Open Cosmos Sets 192-Satellite Core for European Network

What happened

Open Cosmos's CEO said Oct. 5 the company will build a 192-satellite core network for its ConnectedCosmos constellation, scaling to 96 satellites by 2028. Full global coverage is targeted for 2030. Rafel Jordà Siquier called 192 satellites "a foundation, not a limit," promising rapid expansion once government and commercial customers want more capacity. The figure succeeds a roughly 576-satellite scale from Open Cosmos's own ITU filing, which carried a now-passed ITU deployment deadline. Open Cosmos says it builds at one satellite a day, funded in part by the €300 million round it closed in September.

Read-across for SES

Open Cosmos does not compete with SES's GEO/MEO broadband directly. But it is increasingly a credible, funded rival for the same sovereign-connectivity budgets IRIS² and SES's own government pipeline target. A concrete, smaller delivery plan replaces what had been an aspirational ITU filing size. That makes its "trusted European alternative" pitch more deliverable, not less, fragmenting the sovereign-LEO narrative space SES wants to lead in Europe.

As the brief filed it

[AGE: 4h] Open Cosmos's chief executive said the European sovereign-LEO network ConnectedCosmos will build out to a 192-satellite core, calling that figure "a foundation, not a limit."
